Russell Edward (“Russ”) Alme, 69, passed away on August 29, 2013 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, September 8th, 2013 in Marietta, GA. Funeral in Balfour, ND will be announced as details are arranged. Afterward a memorial service will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Drake, ND. Russ was born on October 23,1943 in Harvey, ND to Joseph T. and Betsey E.(Hirengen) Alme. He was the tenth of eleven children and spent the first nineteen years of his life in Drake, ND working on the family farm and at the Alme Implement Company. Russell attended elementary and high school in Drake, ND, college at North Dakota State University and electronics school in the United States Air Force. He married Judith Ann Schuh on July 8, 1967. He lived in Montgomery, NY, Wayzata, MN, Kennesaw, GA, Birmingham, AL, Acworth, GA, and Jasper, GA. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Multi-talented, he worked in avionics, construction and computer systems, and at IBM, Georgia DOT, and Home Depot. Russ will be remembered for living his life with intense authenticity and infinite generosity for others. His humor and kindness were felt by all who met him. With his uncanny analytical mind he solved any problem or puzzle (physical or mental) and could fix anything. Above all, he loved his family and friends. He was a wonderful brother, infinitely likable, friendly and helpful to all. Most generous, caring and kind, Russ was sensitive to the feelings and concerns of his family, friends and community, while being a cheerleader when encouragement and support were needed. His devotion to family and country were clearly evidenced by his youthful experience as a Boy Scout and years of service in the U.S. Air Force. He loved hunting with his brothers and cherished his membership in the Butte American Legion Post. He is survived by his loving partner, Jody Peace, his daughters Karyn Anne Alme and Susan Alice (Cyrus) Hedrick, his brothers Dennis F. (Colleen), Norman J. (LaVonne), Thomas W. (Patricia) and Joseph T. (Joyce), his five grandchildren, and Jody’s children, Randi Lynn (Eric) Johnson and Alexis Noble and Jody’s two grandchildren, as well as the mother of his children, Judith A. Alme. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph T. and Betsey E., his brothers Melvin A., Arnold T., Robert C., and his sisters Mildred A. Canevello, Laura Welsh, and Elizabeth E. Wiper. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Lawrence E. Meidl American Legion Post #270, PO Box 168, Butte, ND 58723.
