IMAGE protects jobs for legal residents!

Here in Cobb County, Georgia we are trying hard to protect jobs from illegal aliens by passing an ordinance to require contractors to become “IMAGE certified.” IMAGE is a no-cost service from ICE that helps employers – public and private – audit their employment and hiring records to insure that all documents presented by employees when hired are genuine and valid. Much more on the great way to deter illegal immigration can be read from the official DHS IMAGE website. IMAGE involves use of the E-Verify system.

IMAGE compliance also saves jobs for legal workers by exposing illegal aliens and the use of fake ID. The Cobb County Board of Commissioners already voted unanimously and on a bi-partisan basis to Be IMAGE compliant.

According to the quotes in the Marietta Daily Journal, Cobb’s newspaper, Cobb County Chairman Tim Lee Tim Lee was very supportive of the IMAGE certification program when he signed the voluntary agreement with ICE in May of last year for the Board of Commissioners to have their hiring records inspected by ICE to insure that there were no fake documents used to get a job with the county. Here are his quotes then as published in this newspaper:

“The meeting started with a presentation in which Lee signed an IMAGE agreement with Brock Nicholson, ICE special agent in charge for the Atlanta field office. Nicholson said he has been proud to partner with Cobb County, starting with the 287(g) program the agency has with the Cobb Sheriff’s Office, which allows local governments to have access to the ICE database. Since 2007, thousands of Cobb inmates have been identified as illegal immigrants.

“We applaud your forward thinking, we appreciate the partnership,” Nicholson said.

Lee said the IMAGE agreement will help prevent possible terrorist attacks and protect employees against discrimination based upon citizenship or natural origin.”

The message, if there is one, is that Cobb County takes its responsibility very seriously to make sure that everything possibly that could be done is being done to make sure the laws are being followed in our county, and to make sure there’s an opportunity for equal employment for those that deserve it,” Lee said after the meeting.”

Cobb County Chairman Tim Lee is now apparently going back on the promise he made in July of last year to expand the IMAGE compliance requirement to all of Cobb’s contractors

IMAGE certification for Cobb contractors is a no-brainer. Ask yourself why County Boss Tim Lee is now backing up on IMAGE And what powerful well-funded force would make him try to ignore the no-cost federal tool that would expose illegal aliens on the payroll of county contractors paid with taxpayer dollars.

From the “Tim Lee, don’t forget to remember your promises” department - Below is the entire text of an email sent Wednesday, July 25, 2012 @ 3:58 PM to a Cobb County citizen from Chairman Tim Lee’s office with his promise to make an addition to Cobb County law so that all contractors be required to take advantage of the no-cost federal IMAGE program:

Good Afternoon Mrs. Barton and Family,

On behalf of Chairman Tim Lee, I want to thank you for your recent email concerning the federal IMAGE program. Cobb County is proud to be the first county in Georgia to enroll in this important program and as well as having lead the effort with the E-Verify and SAVE verification programs.

It is our intention to bring forward an addition to the county code this January that will require those doing business with Cobb to also enroll in the IMAGE program.

This process will require several public meetings in January and your support on this important addition to the county code would be appreciated.

Notice of these hearings will be provided to the Marietta Daily Journal as well as listed on the county clerk's web site as part of the agenda. www.cobbcounty.org/clerk

UPDATE - 5:00 PM Friday – We just got a call from Cobb Commissioner Bob Ott. He tells me that he has asked that the language of ordinance be changed to actually reflect requirement that Cobb contractors apply for IMAGE certification. Good work sir! Great news and great work commissioner Ott! We don't think Chairman Lee is going to like this!

UPDATE – Below is the language of the ordinance in question and a link to today’s MDJ news coverage on the scam.

“Sec. 2-143. Employment of Unauthorized Aliens Prohibited. It is the policy of Cobb County that unauthorized aliens shall not be employed to perform work on county contracts involving the physical performance of services. Therefore, the County shall not enter into a contract for the physical performance of services within the State of Georgia unless the contractor shall provide evidence on County-provided forms that it and its subcontractors have registered for and are participating in the federal work authorization program as defined by O.C.G.A. § 13-10-90 et seq. to verify information of all newly hired employees.”

13-10-90 is the definitions section for the 2006 state E-Verify law ---The Cobb BOC itself signed a publicly signed their own agreement with ICE on IMAGE certification in May. This ordinance language is an intentional ruse. Anyone slightly familiar with legislation/immigration and employment verification can see what Lee hopes no one will.

Let’s let the feds explain the IMAGE job protection program. The below comes from the DHS Immigration and Customs Enforcement Website:

 “IMAGE -- Your Workforce Compliance Partner

Becoming an IMAGE (ICE Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers) member is now easier than ever.

Undocumented workers secure jobs through fraudulent means such as presenting false documents, completing fraudulent benefit applications and stealing someone’s identity. To combat unlawful employment and reduce vulnerabilities that help illegal aliens gain such employment, ICE announced the Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers (IMAGE) program in July 2006. This program assists employers in targeted sectors develop a more secure and stable workforce. It also enhances fraudulent document awareness through education and training.

IMAGE Certification and Program

ICE has streamlined the IMAGE certification process. IMAGE now offers a formal membership certification program that focuses on exceptional employers that have the ability to effect change within their industry or region. These employers also serve as an example and role model in the business community while highlighting the importance and viability of immigration compliance. Program participants will be deemed IMAGE certified upon enrollment and completion of IMAGE membership requirements. Employer feedback on the IMAGE program and industry participation in IMAGE will serve to guide DHS in shaping future worksite enforcement policy.

By voluntarily participating in the IMAGE program, companies can reduce unauthorized employment and the use of fraudulent identity documents. As part of IMAGE, ICE and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will provide education and training on proper hiring procedures, fraudulent document detection and use of the E-Verify employment eligibility verification program.  Members will also learn about the importance of avoiding discrimination in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act’s anti-discrimination provision § 274B.8 U.S.C. § 1324b.

Employers seeking certification in IMAGE must agree to:

• Complete the IMAGE Self-Assessment Questionnaire (Application)
• Enrroll in the E-Verify program within 60 days
• Establish a written hiring and employment eligibility verification policy that includes an internal Form I-9 audit at least once a year
• Submit to a Form I-9 Inspection
• Review and sign an official IMAGE partnership agreement with ICE

Upon enrollment and commitment to DHS' best employment practices, program participants will be deemed "IMAGE Certified" – a distinction DHS believes will become an industry standard. The results of the IMAGE program will guide DHS in shaping future worksite enforcement policy and legislation.

IMAGE members are required to participate in E-Verify, an Internet-based system that compares information from an employee's Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, to data from U.S Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration records to confirm employment eligibility. For more information about the Form I-9 visit I-9 Central, a website dedicated to making guidance more accessible and user-friendly. The site provides employees and employers with one online location to keep them up to date with the information needed to properly complete Form I-9.”

It is important to know that the Cobb County Board of Commissioners has already signed an agreement to become “IMAGE certified”. in May, 2012. You can read about that in the archives of the MDJ.

The big question should now be: Why is Cobb Chairman Tim Lee fighting the effort to require the contractors hired by the BOC to be IMAGE certified? (Hint, along with the ACLU, Cobb’s Village Thinker Rich Pellegrino and the National Council of The Race/La Raza, the powerful, campaign-donating Chamber of Commerce is historically very actively against  any immigration enforcement action that involves ridding employers of black-market labor).  And…why is a proposal to change county ordinance that is supposedly aimed at IMAGE use for Cobb contractors a complete sham that has zero to do with the IMAGE certification process?

On illegal immigration and a repeat of the 1986 GOP-led amnesty that was to have solved the crisis forever, a picture is worth a thousand words

Maybe ask them why the results and consequences of a 2013 legalization would be any different than the “one-time” 1986 legalization – and when they estimate the illegal alien lobby would ever stop the extortion. Or why Hispanics would suddenly vote for Republicans. Or what the difference is between the GOP and Obama’s progressives. Or when the GOP  plans on amnesty number three…

Most illegal alien families use some sort of American welfare program and the myth of “cheap labor” is nonsense. It is really taxpayer subsidized labor. The part about “looking for a better life” is quite true.

Giving race-baiting, parasitic hucksters a bad name: Recommended reading on the Southern Poverty Law Center

I just read the comments there from the local liberals and thought it fun to share a little more exposure of the creatures at the discredited Southern Poverty Law Center. This time from William A. Jacobson at the Legal Insurrection blog with “SPLC’s hatewatch gives cover to hate.”

A sample from Jacobson:

“As long-time readers surely know, I have examined the pernicious methodology of the Southern Poverty Law Center in moving from fighting Klan and neo-Nazi groups to fighting for the Democratic Party agenda against conservatives and the Tea Party.

In seeking to justify its hefty salaries, budget and fundraising, SPLC made a very dangerous leap to treating political opponents as “hate groups” and speech it didn’t like as “hate speech.”

My first post about SPLC was when Mark Potok, head of SPLC’s Hatewatch project, smeared a prominent black female law professor at Vanderbilt as an “apologist for white supremacists,” based upon a complete misreading of her review of a movie involving racially inflammatory rhetoric.  It was a vicious attack, taken apart by James Taranto in The Wall Street Journal.

When it came to the Tea Party, I wrote that SPLC Completed Its Descent Into Madness when it called a speech by Sarah Palin at the National Tea Party Convention in February 2010 one of the landmark events in the “Patriot Movement” (which SPLC defined as Tim McVeigh-type anti-government violent groups):

Whatever SPLC once was, it now is a bastion of political hackery which, by equating legitimate political opposition with criminal violence, is doing substantial damage to our national fabric.

It is time for people of conscience to speak out against SPLC’s tactics.

SPLC continued its agenda against the Tea Party and conservatives when it persisted in claiming that Jared Loughner was “right wing” long after it was clear that was not the case…”
