WHO: Walkers, runners, firefighters and athletes of all manner will go vertical up One Ninety One Peachtree Tower for the American Lung Association. Some will race and others will go at their own pace. There will be a special Firefighters Challenge with teams from Gwinnett, Marietta, Atlanta and many more competing. They will climb in full gear — about 40 extra pounds.
WHAT: The Fight For Air Climb is a challenging stair climb event sponsored by the American Lung Association. More than 600 stair climbers will go up 52 floors, climbing nearly 1,200 steps.
WHEN: Saturday, April 19, 2014, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m., festivities at 8 a.m. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. Firefighters start at 10:00 am.
WHERE: One Ninety One Peachtree Tower, Downtown Atlanta. Check in at 191 Peachtree St. at the Peachtree Center entrance (near the Peachtree Center MARTA Station).
WHY: Money raised from the Fight For Air Climb helps the American Lung Association fight for clean air and healthy lungs. Lung disease death rates continue to rise while other leading causes of death have declined. The American Lung Association funds vital research, advocacy and education on the causes of and treatments for lung disease. In addition, the American Lung Association provides patient education, teaches children not to smoke, and helps teenage and adult smokers quit.
