Convention appeals for hurricane aid   09/02/2008
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Republicans, determined to propel John McCain to the White House, opened their storm-shortened national convention on Monday amid distractions involving running mate Sarah Palin. Police made more than 50 arrests in the surrounding streets as anti-war protests turned violent.

Study: No proof of Vytorin link to cancer   09/02/2008
MUNICH, Germany (AP) - New research into a possible link between a cholesterol-reducing drug and cancer concluded there was no proof to establish a connection, but other doctors warned that it should be used more carefully. In a paper published Tuesday by the New England Journal of Medicine, Terje Pedersen and colleagues found that cancer occurred more frequently in patients taking Vytorin, a combination of Merck's Zocor and Schering-Plough's Zetia, than in people on a placebo pill. But that study was too small to stand as proof of a real link.
