EDITOR'S NOTE: With a holiday weekend now winding down, AT's editors today serve up a selection of some of the best reader comments left on the newspaper's MDJOnline.com website. Safety director Mickey Lloyd's military service record in question ...Big Broom Coming wrote - This will all be swept under the rug by David Hankerson. Hankerson and Lloyd are close friends and he will not let Lloyd go down for anything. Watch how a month or two from now some suspicious answer is given that signals an end to it as far as Hankerson is concerned.
Don Franklin wrote - When I was a Human Resources Manager prior to retirement, I learned of a website run by former SEALs (real ones). If I recall correctly, it was fakeseal.com. It was not uncommon for our firm (a large, well known Atlanta construction firm) to receive resumes from "alleged" SEALs. The website provided a well documented response to my inquiries after a couple of days. As a prior writer said, the SEAL fraternity is a small & prideful group; the fake ones can be ID'd pretty quickly & effectively by the real ones.
Dino D wrote - This will all be covered up by the commission and police--they take care of their own.
Navy Vet wrote - The DA needs to indict him for forgery right this minute. This is BS! There's no such thing as 2 DD-214s. If he really earned those awards he would have at least a photo or two in his uniform showing his seal trident etc.
Be Careful wrote - It is NOT hard to get the truth, all that about taking MONTHS to verify is crap. The whole of Cobb County Government's honor and reputation is at stake here. He runs the police and fire departments for God's sake.
Connie Mack Jr. wrote - Nothing like a 4th of July war story going terrible wrong by unknown communists from 45 years ago to bring out the usual Republican "I love America" Vets BS.
Navy Pride wrote - The refusal of Lloyd to discuss these allegations with the MDJ is highly suspect, and claiming so called "can't talk about something" and "secret missions" makes his Silver Star, Bronze Star (V), Combat Action Ribbon, and Purple Heart stories even more suspect.
JayCeeKay wrote - I have known Director Lloyd since his employment with the county. I find him to be an honorable man. Let's see what he has to say and hold off on our final judgment until the facts are in.
Dustoff wrote - In the Army you not only get a DD-214 when separating, but when you are awarded each medal you get the medal and a certificate of award that has a set of award orders included. The award orders specifically state when, where and why the award was given. And as for not being allowed to discuss certain things in public is just BS. It was 40 years ago and there are only a few things still classified.
Anonymous wrote - Looks like Mickey is eligible for prosecution under the Stolen Valor Act signed into law Dec 20, 2006 or U.S. Code Title 18.
Anonymous wrote - Your right, it is a Federal offence, if he did lie about all of this he should not only lose his job (and everything that came with it)but his freedom also.
Who Ya wrote - This is too easy. SEAL teams are very tight knit organizations. Ask him to name a few of the fellows that he served with in combat, and verify with them his VN service. Also, military award recommendations must be verified by two eye-witnesses (preferably). They provide signed statements attesting to the act.
Commissioners wrote - Just a few months ago we had the illegal workers building our court house. Thanks commissioners! Now we have their hand picked man lying about his service record. Cobb County Commissioners you ever thought about doing a little homework?
Anonymous wrote - I just read on Military.com of several cases of this very thing and they are looking at some stiff penalties to be brought with charges.
Vietnam Veteran wrote - Oliver Halle is 100% correct with everything he said about the matter. Silver Stars are very rare and they would be listed with references documenting the origin and specific date of the occurrence. The Purple Heart would be the same way.
County orders school board candidate Bill Borden to pay back car taxes ...Callmesarcastic wrote - Bill you don't have to be a lawyer to know that you must obtain a GA license & register your car in this state within 30 days of moving here. NO law degree needed to interpret that. Brenda, you're right Cobb County has a plethora of red SUVs with Alaska tags that it's obviously someone else's SUV.
Your Friend wrote - Bill, I consider myself your friend and I can tell you that this bridge is burned. You really need to drop out of this race and get out of politics. You're a decent guy but this really isn't your arena.
R-U-4-Real wrote - Shady ... Bill this is really shady. SHADY or just really STUPID!!! I think I will pass on voting for you just for that reason. We have enough SHADY people on the CCBOE already and we don't need another one.
VoteNoForBorden wrote - Why is it that the Cobb School Board always attracts the laziest and least qualified candidates? Don't vote for Borden unless you are an idiot!
Just the Facts wrote - Although the tax implications of all these company's all over the place are dizzying and rightfully addressed, right now I'm more interested in the ethical considerations here. I'd like an explanation of how all that works.
Made up mind wrote - It isn't about the money - obviously the amount of Borden's back fees and fines would not make a ripple in the shortfall bucket of funds. What the board needs is someone of character and ethics.
Pat H wrote - MDJ, another great job of reporting.
Stan Jones wrote - No way this candidate can pass the smell test. His obfuscation is not needed on a BoE that has long been under attack on ethical issues. Current members look squeaky clean compared to Mr. Borden. We know what we'll be getting with her, and we really haven't a clue with him. We don't have to agree with every plank in her platform to see that she is the best candidate for this seat on the BoE and will give full time attention to the her duties. We certainly can't have that assurance with him.
Anonymous wrote - Bottom line is if Mr. Borden can't do things legally, WE DON"T NEED HIM! I am sick and tired of people being in political positions and not upholding the law!
Stop Complaining wrote - To the MDJ, it's time that you run some articles that detail the life of Angelucci. You continue to say that she is a "mom & event planner". Does she own a company? What was the last event that she planned? Was it her kid's birthday party? Did she report it on her taxes?
Kim's Blog wrote - Read Kim Isaza's blog. It has her interview from Wednesday with Bill and his wife. Our children deserve better. Mayors Matthews and Allegood - you deserve better. Distance yourself from this man immediately. I personally know Tommy Allegood and this surprises me that he would be mixed up with a man like this.
Excuses wrote - The excuse given for not getting proper tags - being out of town in your birth month - is nothing but a big bunch of long-winded nonsense! If you can't manage to get it done early (as quoted from the cleanairforce.com website), then you can certainly get it done late and submit your registration late. His attitude seems to be that if he can't change the law to suit him, and it is inconvenient for him, he'll just circumvent it.
Anonymous wrote - Since he flunked the bar twice I'll bet there is no dissertation on file and he has not earned the title of "doctor" either. I don't know any practicing lawyers who call themselves "doctor". And by his own admission he isn't a practicing lawyer. What a phony. Keep digging MDJ, this is probably the tip of the iceberg (no Alaskan pun intended).
NE Cobb mom wrote - WOW. No wonder he wasn't ever present to talk to a reporter...he knew they would ask the tough questions that he couldn't answer without looking like this. I hope that the county will seize his vehicles, stop his homestead exemption and do some more digging into this tax loop, non-profit. Bill your run for school board is over. Why couldn't you have been honest and forthcoming from the start? Why do we have these egotistical, "out for me" has beens on our school board?
Oh MAYORS wrote - Kennesaw is the joke of Cobb County! Mr. Matthews if I get in trouble with the law will you be there to hold my hand too. Tommy you should rise above this crap and remove yourself from this joke of a campaign. Jenkins you fit in well with the clowns.
My thoughts wrote - Braggadocios Bill is mush.
You and I are probably friends. There's just too much that stinks about this guy. The car tags are just one small piece, but his comment that he hadn't decided if he was going to re-register the car in GA or not is plain arrogant. People who decide which laws they are going to follow are frequently called inmates.
And speaking of GOP involvement, I saw that Kathleen's campaign sponsored a table at Jim Miller. Bill just showed up, put up his signs without sponsorship.
I know I had seen Bill around at party events before that.
On the other hand, I doubt I could pick Angelucci out of a crowd. I have never seen her or even heard of her until she ran.
If party activism is important to you, then Bill would be your candidate. If not, then judge them on their merits. As I have said, I can't vote for either, so I don't have a dog in this fight.
Also, if your only beef with Bill is ONE out of his FOUR vehicles has an Alaskan plate and is registered at his home in Alaska, then you're pretty petty in your decision making.
So the best advice to those citizens who want an honest (if possible), knowledgeable candidate, do your research and then volunteer your time to those candidate's campaigns.
Ms. Angelucci. What I do know is she has been in the public eye as a concerned parent and fighting for what is BEST for the children! I am sure the MDJ has checked into her background, as well as others. The teachers of CCSD support her because she makes common sense decisions. We need to get rid of Cash, Eagle-Crowder, and Sanderson soon!
