In a week when many team get a second look at their region opponents, they will also be putting in some overtime on the court to make of for the cancelations of the past two weeks.
In boys basketball, Wheeler will attempt to rebound from Thursday's Region 6AAAAA loss to Campbell. The Wildcats are currently on a long-distance road trip - playing at Lakota East (Ohio) today. The team will return to face region foes Milton and Walton this weekend.
After opening the season 10-0, Walton has fallen into a slump and lost four of its last five games. The Raiders have played many of those games without star guard Ryan Harrow and offensive production has suffered without the leading scorer.
The Raiders will have an opportunity to right the ship tonight when they face Tucker at the MLK Classic hosted by Centennial. Walton will then play a region game at Pope on Tuesday before hosting Wheeler Saturday when Harrow is expected to return to action.
Campbell, which has found itself steadily gaining respect in Class AAAAA, will have a light week with just a pair of non-region games scheduled. The Spartans will host Marietta tonight and travel to Stephenson on Saturday before returning to its Region 6AAAAA slate next week.
Whitefield doesn't waste time this week, jumping into action tonight at Southwest Atlanta Christian.
But if playing the Region 5A rival Warriors once wasn't enough, the Wolfpack will turn around and play Southwest Atlanta Christian again on Saturday.
In between, the Wolfpack will host Pace Academy on Tuesday and travel to Our Lady of Mercy on Friday.
Hillgrove will enjoy a light week, but it won't be without challenge. The Hawks will host travel to Region 7AAAA foe Cass on Tuesday before hosting Lassiter on Saturday. At 15-1 the Colonels have the potential to give Hillgrove another region loss.
Allatoona, which is owns a 4-1 Region 7AAAA mark, has key region games against Woodland, Paulding County and South Paulding. The Buccaneers haven't faced Woodland yet this season, while they are 1-1 against the other two opponents.
In girls basketball, Campbell looks to continue its hot streak. The Lady Spartans have won nine straight entering today's game against Marietta. Extending the streak to ten won't be easy as the Lady Blue Devils have also been hot-winning seven straight since the middle of December.
However, Campbell will be just the beginning of a long week for Marietta. After playing the Lady Spartans, Region 5AAAAA games against Cherokee (Tuesday), Harrison (Friday) and North Cobb (Saturday) await.
North Cobb faces an equally difficult week. The Lady Warriors will play four Region 5AAAAA games this week, beginning at Kennesaw Mountain tonight. A trip to East Paulding will follow on Tuesday before Friday's home game against Woodstock breaks up the span of road trips. The stretch will end at Marietta on Saturday.
Osborne will open its week against Wesleyan at Centennial's MLK Classic. The Lady Cardinals will then travel to North Paulding for their only Region 7AAAA game of the week. They will host South Cobb on Saturday.
Also in Region 7AAAA, Sprayberry will have a busy week with four games in five days. The action will begin against South Paulding on Tuesday before a rare Wednesday game at North Paulding. After taking Thursday off Sprayberry will travel to Sequoyah and Kell on Friday and Saturday.
