SMYRNA - The Smyrna City Council announced Monday night that Eric Taylor is the finalist for the vacant city administrator position. He currently serves as Smyrna's acting city administrator and has been serving as the assistant city administrator for four years.

"I am very excited to be the finalist for this position and I intend to continue the good work for the foreseeable future. Thank you for your confidence in me," Taylor said.

Mayor Pro Tem Wade Lnenicka said the city received nearly 100 applications for the position. In July, the city announced it would conduct a national search for the job after former City Administrator Wayne Wright said he would vacate the position. Wright's last day was Aug. 15.

Ward 7 Councilman Pete Wood said city officials didn't have to look far to find the best man for the job.

"We felt like we had the best candidate in Eric and we're moving forward to work out all the details regarding this change to the city administration office," he said.

The mayor, noting Taylor's service as assistant administrator, added, "We want to thank you for four years of great work with us as our assistant and we look forward to expanding that relationship. I know you're going to do a good job. I know the council thinks very highly of you, respects you and wishes you very well in this endeavor."

Taylor will bring 15 years of combined business development, customer service and government experience to the position. Additionally, he has more than three years of city of Smyrna institutional knowledge, said Jennifer Bennett, the city's director of communications.

Under the direction of the mayor and City Council, the city administrator serves as the administrative head of the city government and manages the day-to-day operations. The city administrator also updates the council on business, makes policy suggestions, manages certain department heads and is charged with presenting a balanced annual budget to the council for approval.

As required by law, the city will hear additional comment and citizen input on Taylor for the next two weeks.

"If we hear nothing in the next two weeks that would change our direction, we would have a final vote on appointing Eric Taylor as the city administrator at the next council meeting on Oct. 5," Lnenicka said.

I was horrified on my first visit to Smyrna ! I passed by barrios in the like of Monterrey Mexico. There is nothing that the Mayor will do to chang things. The corruption of the governing racist self hating officials would have to be ended. Elections can change everything. I hope that the citizens of Smyrna would open their bills and look at the tax ammount spent on services and pay scale of city officials.I hope that the citizens will ask themselves one question. What am I paying my taxes for? What has the mayor Bacon and eggs done for me?Don' keep all your egggs in one baskett Smyrna ! I am so glad that I chose the City of Decatur as my home. You people in Syrna need to pray for a new Mayor. Just press other when election time comes ! I do . You want change? Start a new begining for Smyrna ! We still have the right to vote America !

To the Smyrna official that commented to me-

Keep fooling the poor folks,.. you'll get their votes that way! How can you believe it's OK to ignore the devastation in Smyrna? Look @ all the EMPTY store fronts- from every entrance into Smyrna- Windy hill West, Belmont Hills, Spring Road, Concord Road, King Springs, Four Corners, South Cobb Drive, etc., etc.

Is your only answer to a taxpaying citizen, namecalling?

How 'bout some actual answers about the decline of Smyrna.

And if you think Halperns gonna spend his money in Belmont Hills- then you are in denial, plain & simple!

I will contine to shop @ Trader Joes, Whole Foods & Fresh Market--- (far away from Smyrna, I might ad)!

No surprise that the only negative comment comes from someone who continues to spew hateful and nasty remarks about everything that Smyrna does. It must be a sad existence to hate so much, Mary.

By the way, the festivals and outdoor programs have been awesome this year.

From 100 applicants, it's no surprise they keep one in their 'flock'. A newcomer from a different part of the country coming in to a poorly run city full of deception & corruption would probably blow the lid off the lies. It's unfortunate for the tax-paying Smyrna citizens, that things will continue to deteriorate. As time passes the city becomes more & more run down & undesireable,.. no matter how many little out-dated festivals they put on. I will continue to eat, shop & play in Roswell, Decatur, Inman Park & East Atlanta.
