As if we didn’t already have enough gun violence in America, along comes Zombie Industries with a series of shooting targets, dummies made up to look like those who support gun safety laws, one of which is the president of the United States.

Everything wrong with the gun industry and its allies can be summed up in what Zombie Industries is selling.

We already know the gun industry and its front group, the National Rifle Association, are completely irresponsible, refusing to consider even modest proposals to curb gun violence including universal background checks, something the NRA supported a decade ago. Zombie Industries squares the circle.

So, for $89.95, you can buy “Al” a human torso dummy that resembles Al Sharpton. When shot, the life-size dummy “bleeds.”

The company offers a disclaimer saying the dummy “represents fictitious characters” then tells the dummy’s back story this way: “Poor Al he was a Sharp guy…”

Sharpton, an African-American ordained minister who hosts MSNBC’s popular “Politics Nation” has been an outspoken supporter for sensible gun safety laws. He called out Zombie Industries on his show after the company exhibited a dummy in the likeness of President Obama at the NRA’s national convention.

We haven’t had enough gun violence directed at presidents?

Another dummy target, presented as a “gun control lobbyist, the most dangerous zombie in the USA today,” no doubt thrilled the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre.

This isn’t funny. This isn’t good clean fun. It represents the basest, most disgusting underbelly of America’s gun culture, appealing to the sick fantasies of some who would love to turn their weapons on anyone who knows gun safety legislation saves lives.

@ Nettie - You must have missed my debate with Bob Barr...here are some examples of NRA prevaricating:

Wayne LaPierre argued last week on Fox News that background checks were ineffective and possibly part of a government plot against gun owners.

A 1995 LaPierre fundraising letter, he said the Clinton administration had empowered police to quote, “Murder law abiding citizens.”

Last year, LaPierre claimed President Obama’s inaction on guns during his first term was proof the president will quote "erase the Second Amendment” during his second term.

LaPierre has even claimed the United Nations will force people in America to turn over their firearms to the government.

Kevin, I wish I had the ability to ignore reality and facts and see only what I want to see, the way you seem to be able to.

What makes you think the NRA even knew what the company was going to display? You make the statement as if they had personally reviewed and approved the display. "Facts" not in evidence equal an unsubstantiatd conclusion.

How about some examples of the lies and misinformation allegedly put out by the NRA, not what you have heard, but what can be documented.

Oh, yeah, guns. Sorry, I got off topic.

Check out the article by Richard Serrano in the July 7th edition of philly dot com.

"A high-powered rifle lost in the ATF's Fast and Furious controversy was used to kill a Mexican police chief in the state of Jalisco earlier this year, according to internal Department of Justice records, suggesting that weapons from the failed gun-tracking operation have now made it into the hands of violent drug cartels deep inside Mexico."

Have you heard?

Senator Max "Architect of Obamacare and it's a train wreck" Baucus (D-MT) will not seek reelection. Democrats were excited about the possibility that popular former Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D) would be an easy shoe-in.

Schweitzer will not be be running for the senate seat.

Not good for our Democrat friends, folks.

Larry Morrissey, mayor of Rockford, IL, dropped out of Bloomberg's group Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The reason? The group's agenda is attacking the rights of legal gun owners.

Morrissey stated he intends to get a concealed carry permit.

What say you, KF?

Illinois (finally) now allows concealed carry.

What say you, KF?

@KF

Either the NRA had a priori knowledge of the offensive targets (as you imply), OR, the NRA had said targets removed once they learned about them via the complaint. Subtle, but important, difference.

Cite your source and let us know.

I do not agree with this product since it appears to be racist [looks like a specific person or is depicted or advertise as such] Targets to be used by gun owners are fine. People lawfully owning firearms is a Constitutional right. Guaranteed by the US Constitution under certain God given right which are not to be infringed upon. [not denied or tampered with, amended or revoked] People who own guns are not freaks, weird, crazy and GUNS don't kill people. People use guns to kill people. The push to control guns in the hands of AMERICAN'S IS NOT TO MAKE AMERICA SAFER, it is to give big socialist led government MORE POWER OVER US and to give criminals an upper hand. You don't think for one minute that criminals are going to comply do you? The government wants unarmed AMERICAN'S we aren't able to fight against tyranny, Socialism, dictatorship and enslavement. The Obama regime is headed toward a dictatorship and Socialist governing. That is why they want to control GUNS.

Al Sharpton is a professional Racist trouble making hater. HE IS NOT A REVEREND, MINISTER PREACHER. HE does not spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ in any form known to Christian congregations I know of!

Sharpton is a Raciest. HE spreads racism, stirs up riots, cause thousands of dollars of damage by inciting groups to ignorantly get all riled up at lies, untrue reports, Racial topics that would die IF he and his associates left it alone. HE GETS RICH over the misery he spreads. WHY is he not charged with hate speech, inciting riots and Terrorist acts. He is a professional radical RACIST Domestic terrorist!

@ Nettie - If it's the lunatic fringe, then why did the NRA allow Zombie Industries display the target that looked like President Obama at its national convention (after negative publicity, the NRA told ZI to hide it).

Unfortunately, this ISN'T the lunatic fringe. It's the mainstream. The NRA has been instrumental in pumping out misinformation, lies and innuendo to anger and confuse gun owners and the natural result is this.

@Nettie: If this type of product appeals to one person who owns a gun, legally or illegally, it is too many. How many innocent men, women and children have to die by gunfire before the lunatic fringe realizes that strict, sensible gun control legislation is needed in every state?

Kevin, this kind of sick stuff has no more to do with the the average gun owner, or the gun culture, than the threatened riots and killings of white people going on in Florida have to do with the average Black citizen.

They are both part of lunatic fringes, and should not be identified as anything more than a bunch of sick bastards.
