NORTHEAST COBB – One person was killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 575 at Hawkins Store Road, in the Noonday area, early Friday morning.

Cobb Police officer Mike Bowman said the driver of a Ford Expedition was southbound on I-575 approaching Hawkins Store Road about 3:45 a.m. Friday when he or she left the road for unknown reasons. The vehicle went into the grassy median between the Interstate and was headed toward the northbound lanes of traffic when it struck the wall of the Hawkins Store Road bridge and “rode the wall for quite a distance,” Bowman said. The vehicle then landed in the concrete area under the bridge and burst into flames.

The driver who died has not yet been identified. No other vehicles or people were involved in the crash, which was originally reported to 911 as a brush fire, Bowman said.
