MABLETON – A Mableton man was arrested early Sunday in connection to the shooting-death of his live-in girlfriend over the weekend.

Thomas Leonardo Schwartz, 46, was charged by Cobb police with the murder of 45-year-old Janice Oates at the couple’s home on Mable Street off Old Floyd Road in Mableton. Police said Oates died from an apparent gunshot wound.

Schwartz was also charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Detectives did not release a motive for the shooting. Oates was identified by investigators as Schwartz’s live-in girlfriend.

At around 8:50 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a 911 call regarding a person shot at the house. Upon arrival, they found Oates dead.

Schwartz is being held without bond at the Cobb County jail.
